Skeleton, 2010

Ok so this is as finished as i care to make it.  A couple of things I learnt from my first BJD.

The first is don't even bother trying to create spherical parts for you ball joints no matter how round you think they are. Obviously I didn't think my attempts were perfect, I just didn't think it mattered. I thought that as long as there is sufficient tension created by the internal elastic that is enought to hold everything in place.  The reality is that, yes the tension will keep everything together but if your joints fit perfectly you need far less tension to make it work.

The second is the necessity of getting the sculpt to the best it can possibly look before baking. I have a tendency, especially when working on a trial piece to rush things. i can't remember the amount of time I thought 'I'll just sand that out, or paint it'. NOPE

I will make another one in a few weeks. But first I must order some wooden beads from ebay for the joints.

Next up is a custom action figure using pre-made plastic ball joints

Skeleton, 2010

So I am attempting my first ball joint doll as I am investing the best way to achieve posable figures. They generally look like this and are pedo as:

I am using basically the same setup to make something less shit and less sex offenderish:

So far I have done this, did it in a couple of nights after work while watching star wars (kill me)

more to come obviously...

Cherrywood Fridge Magnet, 2010

I am sculpting in plaster the members of the band Cherrywood in the style of Mt Rushmore.  The intention is to cast the finished piece and make plastic copies to sell. I am about half way through here, the rough scultping is done and now is for the details. It may take 40 hours or so to complete all the lines in Tim's face.

Resin Casting, 2010

These are the designs for my first resin casting, originally i had intended to make all of these but after completing Dracula I realized that my designs were too thin for how brittle and weak the final resin is.

Illustration, 2010

A test, it looked ok at the time but I think I am going to have to change the method somewhat, not exactly happy with it

El Presidente, 2010

No posts for week as I have been creating this thing. Basically just practice for a project I have planned with a friend.  My next project will be a basic ball joint doll.
